There may be other OEMs with an excess of smartphones besides Samsung. Apple might be in a similar situation. The Cupertino behemoth has recently disclosed a number of discounts for its premium iPhone models and associated accessories in China, which is an unexpected turn of events. The two companies that dominate the smartphone market are Samsung and Apple, but despite sharing some objectives, they are remarkably dissimilar. Apple is known for adopting the exact opposite strategy, that is, it rarely, if ever, lowers the price of its current iPhone models. In contrast, Samsung is well-known for regularly providing excellent discounts and trade-in offers for its Galaxy devices. (Source: Sam Mobile)

Since years, Apple hasn’t given its top-tier iPhones any discounts in China. Unexpectedly, the company has just announced a four-day sales event for iPhones, smartwatches, and wireless earbuds. iPhone 13 Pro is now $89 cheaper.

Market observers claim that Apple outperformed local smartphone brands Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo in terms of healthy smartphone shipment numbers in China in June. Apple may have excess inventory on hand, though shipment data isn’t always indicative of sales.

Nobody is aware if Apple, like Samsung, has a staggering 50 million unsold phones. But the fact that it hadn’t provided a discount before making this announcement says a lot about how poorly the company has recently performed on the Chinese market. Market analysts predict a 9% decline in global smartphone shipments in Q2 2022, and it is obvious that Apple is affected by trends in the larger market.

Customers in China can get a discount from Apple from July 29 to August 1. The company will give discounts on some of its newest iPhones, AirPods, and Apple Watches.

Samsung is also getting ready to release its latest foldable phones and a new Galaxy smartwatch.
