Restarting your Fitbit device should solve any issues it may be experiencing. Is your Fitbit running slowly or having trouble connecting to your phone? Rebooting the computer and updating the software are both necessary for optimal performance. One of the best workarounds for your Fitbit is a restart and data reset if it exhibits these various symptoms and side effects.

Frequently reported issues with Fitbits include things like:

  • after a complete charge, not turning on.
  • The Fitbit app is stuck trying to find the device.
  • Fitbit and phone Bluetooth pairing is not working.
  • performance that is sluggish or slow.
  • It won’t react to on-screen taps, button presses, or swipes.
  • not keeping track of activity, such as steps and other fitness information.
  • Can’t or won’t sync entirely.

Restarting and/or resetting your Fitbit is one of the best (and simplest) fixes if it exhibits these signs.

This article will walk you through the simple steps needed to restart or reset Fitbit devices.

How to reset each model of Fitbit

When restarting a Fitbit device, it’s important to pay close attention to the sensors and charging pins. Never place anything in these holes against the recommended placement.

Inserting objects like paper clips, tools, and similar items is likely to permanently harm your Fitbit.

How to reset your Fitbit by model

We don’t advise resetting your Fitbit unless the restart failed OR you want to sell or give it away to someone else.

That’s because when you reset your Fitbit, all of your data is reset as well, so it’s like getting a brand-new Fitbit.

We advise you to reset your Fitbit if the issue persists even after a restart, such as when it continues to operate poorly, refuses to sync data, or is still not detected by your phone, computer, etc.

But after a factory reset, you must set up your Fitbit once more, knowing that your data has been erased.

Any data that hasn’t synchronized with your Fitbit app and account is also deleted when you perform a factory reset.

This includes items such as your personalized settings, alarms, goals, and notifications.

NOTE: Your Fitbit account is NOT deleted when you reset your Fitbit!

Reset a Fitbit Sense series, Versa series, Ionic, or Charge 3/4

  1. Navigate to the Settings app (gear icon.)
  2. Choose Device Info or About.
  3. Choose Factory Reset or Clear User Data.
  4. Verify with “Yes” Swipe up, tap the checkbox for the Charge series, and then let go.
  5. Your Fitbit resets back to factory defaults when the Fitbit logo appears on the screen and the device vibrates.

Factory reset using the buttons only

If you are having trouble using the on-screen menus, try performing a reset using only your Fitbit button (s). When you are unable to open the Settings app on your Fitbit’s screen, we advise against taking these steps.

For the Fitbit Sense series and Versa series (one-button models)

  1. Till the screen turns off, press and hold the side button.
  2. You should experience a brief vibration after the screen turns off.
  3. Release the side button as soon as you experience the vibration, then press and hold it once more right away.
  4. After the Fitbit logo appears and vanishes, continue pressing the button while holding it down until you hear another vibration. Then, immediately release the button.
  5. Release the side button when you feel the last vibration, which signifies that your Fitbit has begun the factory reset process.

Try these steps if you use older software on your one-button Versa Series.

  1. Hold the back button down for about 8 seconds.
  2. When the Fitbit logo appears, wait until it vanishes. For less than two seconds, release the button.
  3. Once more, hold the button down until you experience a longer, second vibration, and then let go. The factory reset began when the vibration lasted longer.

For Fitbit Versa (original) and Ionic (multiple button models)

  1. As soon as the Fitbit logo appears, hold all buttons down for about 10 seconds before releasing them. Wait until you feel a strong vibration before releasing all the buttons; only release the bottom right button while continuing to press and hold the other two.

Your Fitbit ought to display the setup screen if you followed the steps correctly. Open the Fitbit app now to re-configure your Fitbit. The Fitbit simply restarts if you don’t release the button(s) at the proper moment or if you didn’t perform the steps exactly as instructed. Try resetting the device again.

Reset a Fitbit Luxe and Charge 5

  5. Your Charge 5 or Luxe erases all of the data on it and resets when it vibrates.

If the device doesn’t vibrate, repeat these steps.

Reset a Charge or Charge 2

  1. Connect your Fitbit Charge to a USB power source and its charger.
  2. Press and hold the side button for 2 seconds, after which you should disconnect the charging cable from the USB power source while continuing to hold the side button down for an additional 9 seconds.
  3. Release the side button, wait a brief moment, then press and hold it once more.
  4. Release the button after the screen flashes ALT, wait a further second, then press and hold the side button once more when the Charge vibrates.
  5. After the message Error appears on the screen, release the button, wait a moment, then press and hold it once more.
  6. Release the button after the screen displays Erase.
  7. Reattach the cable to its USB power source–look for your charge to read 0:00 as the current time. If not, follow the steps again.

Reset a Fitbit Blaze or Alta

  2. Tap the menu button in the top corner or the account icon in the app.
  3. Select Settings by tapping the gear icon in your user dashboard.
  4. Pick your Fitbit Blaze or Alta from the available devices.
  5. Tap Alta or Remove This Blaze. (Swipe up if you don’t see this option).
  6. Select to unpair or forget this device in your phone’s Bluetooth settings after it has been deleted from your account.
  7. For the Blaze, press and hold the bottom right and back buttons on the left side until the Fitbit logo appears on the screen.

Follow the restart guidelines listed above for the Alta.
